Inclusion Council
The Inclusion Council is a collaboration between students and adult stakeholders who are committed to building a future where all students feel safe, respected, and included at Newport Harbor High School. Founded in 2016 in response to rising tensions on campus, the Council seeks to address structural inequalities and individual cases of discrimination, especially when they pertain to groups that have been historically marginalized on the basis of race, ethnicity, nationality, immigration status, religion, gender, sexual orientation, and ability.
The Council meets several times a year to discuss current issues and potential solutions. These meetings are open to Newport Harbor’s faculty, staff, students, and their parents, as well as district leaders and school board members. Additionally, the leaders of the Council work throughout the year on a variety of projects: gathering and analyzing data, advocating for changes to policies and resources, and planning events.
Given the challenge and complexity of our mission, the Inclusion Council welcomes the opportunity to collaborate with other individuals and organizations on campus and in the community. If you would like to get involved, please reach out to one of our leaders.
