Academic Programs

AVID

AVID is a fourth- through twelfth-grade system to prepare students in the academic middle for four-year college eligibility.  It has a proven track record in bringing out the best in students, and in closing the achievement gap.  AVID stands for Advancement Via Individual Determination.

English Learner Advisory Committee (ELAC)

The purpose of ELAC is to advise the principal and staff on programs and services to English Learners (ELs). ELAC assists parents in becoming informed about and comfortable with our district’s Master Plan for English Learners and their school’s Single Plan for Student Achievement. ELAC meetings are open to the public; all parents are encouraged to attend.

Inclusion Council

The Inclusion Council is a group of faculty, staff, administration, students, and community members who are committed to building a future where all students feel safe, respected, and included at Newport Harbor High School.

BRIDGES

BRIDGES is a nationally-recognized program with the mission of improving inter-group relations by partnering with schools and communities to create, advocate for, and sustain a safe, inclusive, and equitable school climate that respects society’s diversity.

Gay Straight Alliance

Crucial in providing a safe and welcoming environment to all students.

Feminist Club

A club that ensures safety for all women and men on campus.

Latinos Unidos

Promoting and including Latinos and all students.
