IB Signature Academy

International Baccalaureate

Newport Harbor High School has built a strong IB Diploma Program, a two-year, intellectually invigorating experience for high school juniors and seniors.

To extend the benefits of IB to more students, the Harbor Zone will build, over time, an IB Primary Years Program (K-5) and a Middle Years Program (6-10). Starting in 2015-2016, NHHS plans to offer ninth grade students three MYP-influenced classes—English, Social Studies, and Art— and the opportunity to complete two IB MYP-based projects, one personal and one community-based.

Ninth grade MYP-influenced English and Art will incorporate the best of IB: student-led inquiry, interdisciplinary studies, and connections to current global issues. Ninth grade MYP-influenced Social Studies will build on our successful Global Connect class.  Global Connect was developed by, and is taught in partnership with, the University of California, Irvine.

IB in Practice

The International Baccalaureate Organization regularly conducts research on the benefits of its program.  The latest study again showed that the an IB education increases a student's chance at college success.  Read a summary or the full report here.
